The game features 64 life-sized mixed-media sculptures or hexagrams, representing challenges and choices faced by immigrant women working in labor-intensive jobs, such as take-out restaurants, nail salons, and laundromat. Players navigate 4 visually guided stages symbolized by suspended hexagrams, each encompassing themes like extinct birds, plants, mythological characters, and natural phenomena. These themes correspond to these worker's predicaments through oral histories and social justice issues. The goal is to contribute to a shared resource pool that amplifies future abundance.
Stage 1 - The Immigrant Woman's Predicament: Players begin by randomly selecting a hexagram from the first row, which represents a significant event or challenge in the life of an immigrant woman. These hexagrams are inspired by stories from a literature book that highlights the struggles and triumphs of immigrant women.
Stage 2 - Social Justice Issues: Players navigate through 16 hexagrams in the second row, each representing a different social justice issue, such as discrimination, poverty, or access to education. The player selects one hexagram that resonates with them, symbolizing the choice they would make in that situation.
Stage 3 - The Veil of Innocence: Entering the Veil of Innocence, players randomly choose a hexagram from the third row, which represents the social status and resources they will either have or lack in the game's "life."
Stage 4 - Fortune and Misfortune: In the final stage, players randomly select a hexagram from the fourth row, symbolizing the element of luck or misfortune they will experience throughout the game's "life."
